Living With Purpose
~Deepening Connection~
Artists use the symbol of the lotus flower to inspire people to strive despite their difficulties, to share the best parts of themselves with the world, regardless of the circumstances. To be like the lotus flower is to bring beauty and light out of the murky darkness at the bottom of a pond. Sexuality is as individual as each lotus flower, and like the lotus flower, it unfolds from the mind and soul when light and warmth are offered. We all have our own erotic story. But sometimes people experience shame and fear when it comes to honestly expressing their deepest desires, even to intimate partners. True sexual expression can involve vulnerability and risk; a fear of not being perceived as “normal” or otherwise being judged can lead to secretive behaviors. The truth is that the range of sexual desire has as many variations as there are people on the planet.
Conflict in intimate relationships can arise from such secrets, perceptions, shame, and hidden agendas, as well as mismatched desires. Usually it is a strong emotional or physical desire or personal need that can trigger issues. Sex therapy will involve working together to explore desires, stories, interests, and appetites, with the goal being integrated emotional growth and connection with partners or simply permission to feel and be who you truly are. Feeling respected, valued, and honored can support greater closeness and intimacy.
Helping individuals and couples to navigate desire, fantasy, reality, and sexual expression requires a therapist with experience and education. I operate from an experienced, non-judgmental, authentic sex-positive framework to support you in exploring you and/or your partner’s erotic depths.
A final note: Physical health is a key part of good psychological, social, sexual, and emotional health. The simple act of walking outdoors for 20 minutes and the subsequent increase in endorphins can make all the difference in how you see your day.
I encourage people seeking to make changes in their lives to begin by evaluating and making small changes in their diet and exercise routines. Simple, healthful changes are a powerful way to help you achieve your goal of connecting to others with more clarity and love.
